First Things First
It seems to me that the first post on my blog should reflect what is most important to me. As a result putting first things first must set the priority of life. Jesus stated that "The first will be last and the last first." This is the end of 2007, the last. It is my first entry to my blog. Putting Jesus first in all of life drives what I want to be as a man, a follower of Jesus, a husband, father, friend, and leader. I am interested in what other leaders and authors are saying and how the principles they have discovered have aided them in becoming success and effective in life and ministry. The ideas they share provide helpful insight for those of us who read and investigate their thoughts. However, the Word of God is the beginning and end of truth and everything that others share must be measured against the Scripture for both content and methodology. My journey of life and ministry have been grounded in this truth. With the proliferation of information in our world and our ability to have easy access to knowledge through the internet, many seem to be following the pattern of the Athenians who "spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas" (Acts 17:21 NIV). There is no lack of knowledge in the Church today. There is, however, a lack of the power of the Spirit. My prayer is that followers of Jesus will put first things first in 2008 and make their priority the Word of God and prayer to the Father. That is my personal commitment and greatest desire.
